Another applique shirt for another birthday present!  This time, a simple flower with a cute button center. 

Rainbow Hearts Applique T-Shirt

I found this fun, simple idea for applique here.  It was easy enough to find fabric in the six rainbow colors in my stash.  The best thing about this shirt?  She can wear it with just about anything! 

American Flag Applique T-Shirts

Our 4th of July shirts were inspired by this tutorial, which promises to take no more than 10 minutes to complete.  I used Wonder Under, like with all my applique, which isn't mentioned in the tutorial, so mine took a bit longer, but still.  These shirts for the girls I whipped up in maybe half an hour the other night.  And for Jack?  A matching tie applique on his red t-shirt.  I had a vision of taking their picture in the Radio Flyer in front of the nearby pecan orchard while they were eating ice cream cones... and it almost happened.  The possibility of mosquitoes never crossed my mind.  And, yet, as we were unloading the wagon from the back of the van at the orchard, we were absolutely attacked by the horrendous creatures!  Imagine me, yelling at the kids to get back in the van and close the windows, re-loading the wagon (which didn't fit well in the first place), and worrying about melting ice cream cones.  And now imagine me driving back home (only a couple houses away) with the back of the van open because I didn't want to take the time to wedge the wagon in the right way.  All the while slapping mosquitoes on my arms and listening to Kate's panicked cry.  Mother of the Year right here!  We ended up taking our pictures in front of the garage door.  And they still turned out super cute.

Pirate Ship Applique T-Shirt

The kids and I went to a pirate-themed birthday party a few days ago.  Super fun: they got tattoos, dug for buried treasure, and came home with a load of salt water taffy.  I made the birthday boy, three-year-old David, a pirate ship-appliqued t-shirt.  I found the original idea here.  He--and his mom--loved it!

I used white "puffy paint" for the skull and crossbones.

Princess Crown Applique T-Shirts

So, I forgot.  I said I didn't do anything special, besides the invitation, for the girls' princess party.  But I actually whipped up a couple t-shirts for them to wear on party day.  That's special, right?  I did a simple princess crown applique for both of them.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Applique

For a friend's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"-themed birthday party, I came up with a new applique.  I do believe Leonardo is the one who wears the blue mask.  Everything is fabric but the eye's pupils, which I used black puffy paint for.  I hope the birthday boy liked it!

Adding Ribbon to Jeans

I'm constantly searching for ways to upcycle Jack's old clothing into something girly for Kate.  One simple solution for a pair of boys' jeans?  Sew a cute little ribbon trim on the bottom hem!

My MOPS group had a Pinterest meeting the other day.  We were all encouraged to bring crafts or projects inspired by our online browsing.  Of course, I had a million projects I could have brought... but had to narrow it down!  I ended up presenting a few of my favorite appliqued t-shirts.

Dragon Applique T-Shirt

Jack wanted a dragon shirt, so I got the idea for an applique from this blog post.  More and more, he's growing up waaaaay too fast, so I'm happy he chose to go with a cute, cuddly dragon, rather than a scary, fire-breathing one. 

Girl's Skirt Made from Boy's Jeans

I love re-purposing and upcycling clothes for my kids.  Seeing as how we had a boy first, then a girl, I didn't want to just get rid of all his jeans.  I wanted to use them for my girl!  Found a tutorial here for turning a pair of boys' jeans into a denim skirt for little girls.  And it turned out super cute!

Pink, Black, and White Initial Onesie

Someone gave this adorable zebra-striped hat to Maggie with a 12-month-sized dress about a year ago.  I assumed the hat was also a 12-month size, but when she came 'round that age, the hat was way too puny for her gigantic head.  So she never got to wear it!  I decided to re-gift it to my friend Teresa and her baby girl Audrey, who should be born any day now.  I appliqued a matching initial onesie and made a hairbow to go along with it.  Little did I know that pink, black, and white were the colors of her baby shower, so it was perfect!

Strawberry Applique Onesie and Matching Bell-Bottomed Jeans

My adorable model doesn't like to sit still and smile for the camera, so it's a little difficult to get a good picture of her outfit.  But I designed this strawberry applique for her onesie and added a little ruffle to the bottom of some jeans that used to be Jack's.  So sweet!

Candy Corn Ruffle Onesie

Who doesn't love candy corn? At least once a year I need to have a handful. Maggie, of course, hasn't yet been introduced to the sugary treat, but she is lookin' adorable in her onesie. I found the tutorial at this Naptime Crafters post.

Appliqued Onesies

We've been in our new house for six months, baby Maggie is four months and sleeping well most nights, and I am officially back in crafting mode. Two friends recently had their own babies, and so a couple appliqued onesie gifts were in order. One boy, one girl:

Tulip Shirt

Got the pattern for this shirt from my new book "101 Snappy Fashions," by Cathie Filian, which has tons of cute homemade t-shirt ideas for babies and toddlers. The tulips are made from pink felt, a little embroidery, and green rick-rack. Kate has a hard time smiling for the camera without squinting her eyes... which makes her utterly adorable.

Official Valentine's Day Picture

Every year I take pictures of the kids to send out to grandparents, aunts, and uncles with our Valentines. This year, I made both of them appliqued t-shirts to wear for the photo shoot. Kate's shirt has a big "XO," and Jack has a robot with an embroidered red heart on his chest (my first time doing embroidery since my Grandma Mary taught me in junior high!), and coiled arms and legs. And Kate got a tutu, too! We went to the plaza in Old Mesilla to take pictures, where this little gazebo made them pose quite adorably.
